How To Get Columns Back in Outlook

A lot of people at work have asked me how to get back a column or field in their Microsoft Outlook. They either deleted it by accidently dragging it out of the header row, or they actually delete it. It's actually very easy to get it back. So if you're an IT, and don't want to fix it for your coworker over and over again, just paste them a link to this article.

There are actually two very easy ways to add the columns or fields back into your Microsoft Outlook.

In my example I will add the From Column back to my Inbox.

Method 1:

  1. Right click the header bar where it says the column titles.
  2. Select Field Chooser and a small window will popup
  3. Now scroll down the list to see what fields you want to add back to your header bar.
  4. Drag the item from that small window and into the header bar in your Outlook.
  5. You can arrange the order by just selecting and dragging the column header from to the left or right.

Method 2:

  1. This starts off the same. Right click the header bar where it says the column titles.
  2. ms-outlook-method-2-tn.jpg
  3. Select Customize Current View, and a window called Customize View: Messages should pop up.
  4. Click the Fields... button.
  5. From the left Available Fields section highlight the one you want to add back. Then click Add ->
  6. ms-outlook-show-fields.jpg
  7. The column should then move to the right column where it shows your current headers.
  8. ms-outlook-show-fields-from.jpg
  9. Click OK and the field should be readded at the very right. Just drag and drop the new header to where you want it.

And you are done. The From field is now added.
