Wow. Now that's a lot of words in a title. Anyways, a lot of people have sent me a file, created in Paint as a Bitmap (.BMP). These files are 20 times or more the size of a JPEG or GIF! What's even worse is when I can't establih a good connection with some people, this Image sometimes takes 30 minutes to download, which would normally take 10 seconds if it were saved as a JPEG or GIF.
Now, its different for many applications, so I'll give a few examples on how to save a file as a different file type, rather than the default for that specific program. When saving an image (i.e. one that you've created in Paint, or taken a screen shot, and you don't have Adobe Photoshop or HoverSnap or similar program), there is a section called Save as type:. You can click this pulldown and pick a specified file type (pick JPEG).

Furthermore, if you want to create an HTML, PHP, C++, etc. file, and you only have NotePad, when saving you can enclose your file name in quotation marks, and provide your own extension, such as "Test.html" as seen in the image. This will save it as the proper file type. If you do not include the quotations, it will save your file as Test.html.txt.

So do everyone a favor, and don't ever save an image as a Bitmap.
